Electrical Phenotyping of Human Brain Tissues: An Automated System for Tumor Delineation

Precise surgical excision of brain tumors depends on the surgeon’s ability to accurately differentiate from healthy tissues. We have developed an automated system integrated with biochips, actuation unit, and electronics measure electrical resistivity ex vivo human tissues for differentiating normal tumor. The fresh (n = 48), formalin-fixed one week long-term (six months) 27) samples different anatomical regions tumor (glioma n 6; fresh, week, six were measured using system. glioma (22.4 ± $1.6~\Omega$ .cm) was significantly lesser than region (98.6 notation="LaTeX">$1.4~\Omega$ tissue (p 5e-8). trend lower compared preserved after months formalin fixation. also report effects heterogeneity formalin-fixation properties White matter found higher grey regions. associated white Formalin-fixation observed increase magnitude while retaining across tumors. study shows that could potentially be used as additional biomarker delineating
